Oh Oh....Smells Like Cancer

DNA-coded nanosensor device can smell skin cancer....still, dogs can still be trained for that, for cancer in general and you could treat yourself to holistic cancer cures.  And that teenager who developed a cheap cancer smelling kit and was featured on The Colbert Report awhile back--how's his multi-million dollar funding and marketing going?

We should use the easy, affordable stuff first...and use nanotechnology for things that shouldn't leave the lab and use the pre-cautionary principle....DDT, the Chemical, Genetic Modification and Atomic Age proved that one.
.....

Here's the nanosensor for cancer link: http://theinstitute.ieee.org/video/technology-focus/technology-topic/tech-news-nanotechnology

And that kid I was telling you about who was featured on the Colbert Report....well his pancreatic cancer detection kit is featured in a video on YouTube here:

As for the dogs...well, we'll leave it to Beaver and your own common sense. k?

Futurescape with James Woods.

The new and recent TV series about the near(ish) future, fittingly called Futurescape does a good job imagining the spectrum of Utopia and Dystopia. It is surely a timely show, as we are heading toward some difficult realities that we may not be able to restrain ourselves from engaging. Will these breakthrough technologies at breakneck speeds break our world, by ushering in humans with bio-luminescent hair, glow-in the dark lipstick, bio-mechanical detachable penises or will it fall more towards the other end of the spectrum: the promises of near free energy, clean air and water for rich and poor alike? The age old curses versus blessings. The train lessened the need for horse-drawn caravans but the automobile lessened the train. Collectivism vs individualism. Can we find a non-violent balance? Can we not both have 'organic', natural food grown on natural and rich soil or will the future be about nanotoxins in our bodies and animal and plant food?

James Woods presents some possibilities of the good, the bad and ugly old future where scifi themes of like it or not extremes are presented. Because sometimes, only in the extremes can we see the balance.
That's why we have our limbs; our extremities. You can catch the series online. Click this link for a preview of Futurescape with James Woods on YouTube. (You'll have to search your local listings yourself.)  How you do is up to....You-Know-Who [insert mock copyright here]

This Christmas, Share a Nanotechnology Catalog For Every Girl and Boy.

Here is a great and growing website where nanotechnology is being inventoried: from consumer electronics, food, environmental health and safety and beyond. It is very comprehensive and often includes any possible dangers or toxicity possiblities. Have a great holiday season, and use nanotechnology safely, or if not possible, don't use it until it is safe.

Check it out the nanotech catolog/inventory project here:

Nanotechnology Perception Study: Do we differ in our 'gut feelings' about being prepared in regulating nanotechnology?

Were we prepared in the regulation of DDT in the past? Was Rachel Carson a Chicken Little? Was the world ready to regulate atomic technology during the collapse of the Soviet Bloc? Did we truly regulate plastics? Are not the ocean plastic and garbage areas not proof of mis-regulation of industrial societies? Is the precautionary principle an ever-growing principle to be ignored by regulators? Does greed outweigh reason? The following study was done in order to analyze different people's thoughts on 'novel' technologies.

Quantum Stealth Technology, nanowires, crystals, cubes and artificial photosynthesis.

The military is probably drooling over this one. Or perhaps polluting factories could hide their smokestacks....or maybe you could spy on your spouse all day or be a quantum stealth stalker... Sounds like Atlantis is rising again. But can it work in a Beefaroni or canned Spam world? Qui Bono?Hopefully we can use it for peaceful purposes like efficient energy. How can we be 'bio-mimics' when money, greed and power gets in the way?

Crystal Nano Glass Data Storage.

'Sex, lies and million plus years Crystal Nano Glass Data Storage.' Let's make sure it doesn't go the way of floppy disks, or 8mm, Laser Disk or Audio Cassettes. Or perhaps the entire world's database can be put into to Rice Krispies Boxes. Not likely, unfortunately.       Snap, Crackle, Pop! LOL

30 New Startups for Waterloo-Wellington biotech, nanotech, quantum, singularity Region

VeloCity is a startup program with the University of Waterloo, and has announced 30 new startups this fall of 2013. The program fosters entrepreneurship by providing University of Waterloo students with opportunities for startup funding, free workspace, workshops, networking opportunities and access to mentors. The Waterloo-Wellington Region, which has traditionally been an area where Mennonites, maple syrup and farming, along with an undercurrent of holistic healing and organic lifestyles, is now home to businesses to the world famous Blackberry, along with Google and other such global tech firms. We are indeed headed into interesting times. In a land that was founded by German and Anglo-Scot Christian farming communities, the question is, will these groups equally contribute to the growing movement of technology singularity, or will they diverge into their respective extremist camps, spoiling the 'processed-icing-layer- on-organic-cake' of traditional and high-tech societies? Will the wisdom of traditional folk systems be paved over by faceless technology corporations whose employees (and perhaps employers too) forgot to eat fibre based on food, choosing nano-fibre instead, or will some of us become modern-Mennonite Cyborg farmers of the future, getting help from Android farmhands who 'themselves' left with the preacher's daughter? We are headed into interesting times indeed.

India: The Land of Ancient Wisdom, Compassion and Nanotechnology

It's my bet that India is going to be the epicentre for nanotech in a very short time. Some have India ranked as number 4 in the world.  India has many brilliant minds and they will likely not charge New York prices. The logic is simple. This short article talks about some of the leading centres in India engaging in nanotechnology. http://education.sulekha.com/nanotechnology-scope-in-india_589395_blog

A NANO-CATALOGUE FOR EVERY GIRL AND BOY THIS CHRISTMAS.

The following website gives a very comprehensive and growing catalogue and inventory of current and emerging nanotech and more. I would suggest we also need a nano-toxicology map in order to help not repeat possible mistakes throughout the world.

A Movie About Avoiding the Singularity Meltdown.

This movie could easily star Keanu Reeves. If we can barely unplug from our iPhones, how much more difficult would it be to unplug from super AI's? The movie, still in production, called I's, is a perfect feature film depicting this dark scenario. Check out the trailer below.
